Young raccoon clings to the trunk of a tree, photographed after release from Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary in Virginia.

Young Raccoon Pausing on Tree

A young raccoon (Procyon lotor) clings to the side of a tree, pausing mid-climb with a watchful, uncertain expression. This raccoon was recently rehabilitated and released by the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary in Virginia. Raccoons are intelligent and adaptable mammals native to North America, easily recognized by their ringed tails and masked faces.
