Young Raccoon Climbing Tree

A young raccoon (Procyon lotor) pauses on the side of a tree, clinging to the bark with sharp claws while peering downward. This raccoon was recently rehabilitated and released by the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary in Virginia. Raccoons are adaptable mammals found throughout North America, known for their climbing ability and resourcefulness.
